EDDIE EDDIE BO-BEDDIE BANANA FANA FO-FEDDIE

Listen up, y'all know the drill: If the first two letters are ever the same, drop the first and then say the name, like Bob Bob, drop the "B", Bo-ob, or Mary Mary, drop the "M", Mo-ary, and that's the only rule that is contrary.

Okaaaaay, now that I got that out of my system, for all of those who didn't get enough of Wordslinger & Cultural Archeologist Eddie Muller at Noir City 5 (is that even possible?), here's two more hits to the jaw.

On Friday, March 16, Eddie stops by the British Noir Cinemalit Film Series at the Mechanics Institute Library ("MIL") to introduce Alberto Cavalcanti's They Made Me A Fugitive (1947), a "tough-minded tale, laced with caustic dialogue, of a double-crossed crook seeking revenge while eluding the cops." The Mechanics Institute is located at 57 Post Street (near Market), here in Noir City. The program begins at 6:30 p.m. with a "salon style discussion" following the film. Tickets are available at the door. MIL members get in free while a suggested donation of $10 is asked of the drop-in riffraff. For more information and reservations: Call (415) 393-0100 or email rsvp@milibrary.org. Since seating is limited, reservations are required.

More immediately, however, Eddie offers something sanguinary instead of saccharine for Valentine's Day. For the past two years he's been playwright-in-residence for Thrillpeddlers, a San Francisco-based theatre troupe that keeps alive the sensational spirit of the traditional Grand Guignol at an intimate 50-seat venue, the Hypnodrome.

This month Thrillpeddlers begin a run of what is inarguably the most provocative and compelling one act play they've yet staged, "Orgy in the Lighthouse." Eddie penned the adaptation from the original play by Alfred Marchand.

In a lonely lighthouse, on the holiest day of the year, a sailor on leave visits his naive young brother, one of the keepers of the lighthouse flame. He brings uninvited guests: a pair of playful prostitutes. A rising storm unleashes a torrent of treachery, budding love, religious fervor, and drunken debauchery—with an unexpected, horrifying climax.

The cast is fantastic and fearless, Eddie promises, and it's all the lust and mayhem you could ever hope for! It's advisable to bring someone you can squeeze.

The Hypnodrome is presenting four "previews," under the banner "A Night of Erotic Appetizers." The shows are at 8 p.m., February 14-17. The show's regular run begins March 1. Tickets can be purchased online at Brown Paper Tickets.
